His name is Greg Finger, and here is his story.
Let’s start with music. Greg Finger Band is his band. They are an Americana band based out of Lexington, Kentucky combining tasteful music styles from folk, rock, country, and roots.
As one reviewer put it, “Greg Finger Band has made a grand start as a band who combines delightful elements of country, folk, and rock music into sounds that are just plain good to listen to, all the while maintaining an obvious sense of authenticity.” How did this all happen?
As a young kid growing up in the suburbs of Cincinnati, life for Greg was as normal as it could be for a brown haired, blue eyed, Irish kid. He was adopted at a young age by two loving parents that wanted a better life for him than his birth mother could provide. Struggling for years with addiction, she made the brave choice to choose adoption and a better life for him.
Greg was introduced to music at a young age. He can remember sweet memories of when his Dad used to sing James Taylors “Sweet Baby James” to him as he drifted off to sleep tucked under his blanket. Those are his first memories of how music touched him.
Playing instruments has always come naturally to him. Greg’s parents bought him his first upright piano when he was in first grade. The funny thing about it is how out of tune that piano is. He can’t even imagine how annoyed his parents must have been hearing him play that thing for hours a day as a first grader. Greg is forever grateful now when he goes back home and play that out of tune piano, because without his “out of tune” start, He wouldn’t have discovered music in such a life changing way.”
Greg started writing songs….lots of songs. He admits most of them were awful at first, but for six months he was a songwriting machine and he wrote over 80 songs. After sharing a few songs with guitar player/background vocalist Duke McClellan and adding him on the tracks, Greg knew they had something going. It is a special thing when you genuinely enjoy hanging out with people you “work” with. Greg put work in quotes because music has never felt like work to him, more like something that is instinctively a part of him. Duke is an insanely talented guitar player and background singer, but even more than that, Duke gets the vision. “That is invaluable to me” says Greg”. Coming together very organically, Greg Finger Band came together with Duke as his wingman.
Fast forward one year, their debut record has launched, and they have spent thousands of miles on the road, and have been writing and playing the best music they have – “Greg says I am excited. Can you tell?”
They have only scratched the surface of what they are going to do, and Greg looks forward to the journey.
